| Portrays Ben Bruckner of Showtime's hit series "Queer as Folk" Robert Gant continues to emerge as one of Hollywood's most sought-after actors. In 2002, Gant graced television screens every week as part of the cast of Showtime's hit television series "Queer as Folk." On the show, Robert plays writer and college professor, HIV+ Ben Bruckner. During the previous season and a half, he recurred on the WB's "Popular" as the eccentric Principal, Calvin Krupps. Gant has also had many notable guest spots on such TV hits as "Friends," where he played one of two gorgeous men Lisa Kudrow's character was dating simultaneously, "Caroline in the City" where he recurred as Caroline's boyfriend, Trevor, "Veronica's Closet," "Becker," "Melrose Place," and "Ellen." He also appeared in the independent films "The Contract" and "Fits and Starts." "BEING THE CHANGE" ON GROWING UP AND COMING OUT IN HOLLYWOOD: As overweight little boy from a very blue collar family with parents who never went beyond high school, Robert Gant was ashamed of himself and his background. But, Gant is ashamed no more, living a life he could then only have dreamed about. Robert became a high school football player (the Homecoming King), graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, then Georgetown Law School, and is now a gay leading man in Hollywood, the town where leading men can't be gay. And he is a success. One of the stars of Showtime's hit television series "Queer as Folk," his character Ben Bruckner, is the first HIV+ character on television to be shown as a whole person, one with an active love relationship and sex life. Robert's work on the show, and his efforts in life, have placed him on the front line of our country's next great struggle for civil rights - for gay people to be entitled to all of the rights and benefits that citizenship allows for. Queer as Folk is arguably the only show on television to honestly portray gay life in its entirely. Television's first openly gay leading man talks about his personal journey: coming out, healing low self-esteem and finding inner-peace to live whole as a man. Straight or gay, he speaks about giving people back to themselves and integrating all parts of oneself. Robert also takes you behind the scenes at Queer as Folk, into the challenges of his role, issues faced by gays in America - young and old, philanthropy, and how one can participate to creating a lasting positive change. |
